My internship at Milan Eye Center is going great. The staff has been so welcoming and I am grateful for their patience and willingness to answer all my questions. My perception of this internship and organization has not changed, per se, but rather has been created. Going into this, I had no idea what to expect. Now, I perceive Milan Eye Center as a perfect organization to learn about ophthalmology – there are so many knowledgeable technicians, nurses, doctors, and surgeons, all who are incredible at explaining certain situations and concepts to me. I am surprised by how often they actually let me dress out and shadow in the operating room. I thought I would be spending most of my time in clinic and I was sort of shocked (and stoked!) when they asked if I’d like to watch surgery. There are some times, usually in clinic, when it seems routine and gets a little boring. However, these moments have taught me to not expect every single day to be exciting. I have always been so passionate about ophthalmology that I thought it couldn’t possibly get boring, but like anything, it can be at times. Those instances at my internship have just better prepared me for the reality of the field. All in all, I am really enjoying my time at Milan Eye Center.
