My name is Kaitlyn Brown and I am a senior at West Forsyth High School. I have been accepted to the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) where I plan to major in biology and take pre-medicine.

For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by the science of medicine, but my interest has always been in ophthalmology. When I think of the five senses we are born with and which most of us take for granted, vision has always been the one I knew I could never live without. I want nothing more in life than to help those who have partially or fully lost that crucial sense that gets us all through the day.

I am mentoring at Milan Eye Center where I have been shadowing their ophthalmic technicians, optometrists, and surgeons. I mentor Monday-Wednesday and spend my time in either clinic, where I observe patient work-ups and general appointments, or in the surgery center, where I have been able to view a variety of surgeries including corneal transplant, pterygium excision, blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, and the most commonly, cataract surgery. This mentorship has not only been an opportunity to learn from some of the best doctors, but has also solidified my interest in ophthalmology.
