Assignment 1: Preparing For Mentorship

Knowing that first impressions are made within the first ten seconds of introduction, it is important that I smile, have a firm handshake, and maintain eye contact when meeting my mentor and other workers in the office. I plan to make an effort to remember names and keep conversation flowing in order to acquaint with the people I will be working closely with in these upcoming months. Dressing professionally, being punctual, and maintaining a positive attitude are my priorities each day. Being attentive and taking initiative are qualities I will demonstrate for the duration of my time in the office.

From this mentorship, I envision gaining knowledge from experienced professionals in the field I have always dreamed of going into. Spending time at Milan Eye Center will allow me to get a feel for the requirements and demands of my interests in medicine and ultimately may determine if ophthalmology is what I actually want to spend my life doing.

Asking questions and developing a strong professional relationship with my mentor will ensure that I will get the most out of this experience. I plan to always express my gratitude for their time in showing me the ropes of ophthalmology.

There is no denying that this internship is preparing me for my future in more ways than one. It is exposing me to the professional world and teaching me how to perform in the fast-paced field of medicine. The knowledge I gain at Milan Eye Center will make transitioning into medical school and residency much smoother. This type of immersive experience will be useful to me for years to come.
